Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Engineering Technology

The University of North Alabama’s Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions (http://www.una.edu/eip/) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level specializing in electrical or mechanical engineering. This position will have teaching responsibilities that involve instruction at both UNA’s main campus located in Florence, AL, and at the Guizhou University-University of North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology located in Guiyang, China. This position will begin in Fall 2024. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at least two months per semester in China. Initial review of applications will begin on April 1, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.

The Northern Alabama and Guiyang regions are home to a large economy of industrial and manufacturing operations. Therefore, the successful candidate will have experience that is consistent with the ability to develop an electro-mechanical engineering technology curriculum in support of regional manufacturing needs. This position will also continue to explore new curricular possibilities in engineering and technology as the needs of the department and region evolve.

Teach program-related coursework; maintain and manage laboratories associated with the curricula; develop engineering and technology curricula related to (but not limited to) electro-mechanical engineering technology; advise and mentor students; participate in scholarly activity; participate in service to the university, college, department, and profession; and support the department’s current ABET accreditation process. The standard teaching load for this position is 12 credit hours per semester, with all instruction being provided in English.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in written form, verbally, and inter-personally; ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff; willingness and ability to teach and/or learn to teach a varied and evolving curriculum; ability to plan and perform hands-on development of laboratory equipment and exercises.

PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required; Five plus years of industry experience is preferred; teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred; and demonstrated written and spoken fluency in English (fluency in Mandarin/Southwestern Mandarin is desired, but not required).

Official transcripts must be sent directly to HR from the issuing school via email to be considered official. Transcripts with a designation of “Issued to Student”, or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
