Position Title: LHA Resource Specialist (20230412)

Full-Time, Benefitted Position, Exempt

Hiring Range: $30.90- $34.33/hour

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm Some nights and weeks may be required.

Job Summary: Provide information, consultation, education, and referral to residents regarding the resources and services available to individuals and their families and assist them in accessing and utilizing available resources and services to remain successfully housed and thriving. Conducts intake and assessment to develop case plans and provides follow up as needed. Provide case management services as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work on-site at six Longmont Housing Authority properties for older adults to provide supportive services to residents where they live.
  • Offer an initial orientation to each resident to provide an assessment to determine their interest in and need for on-site services.
  • Conduct intake to determine applications and eligibility for benefits and services and develop case plans with and for the client.
  • Complete applications for one-time financial grants as needed; review resident’s budget to determine that there is a sustainable budgetary plan before applying for grants.
  • Provide case consultation to residents and their families and caregivers by providing information about resources, participating in joint problem solving and goal setting. Provide referrals, assisting clients in accessing services, and doing follow up as needed.
  • Maintain resource information regarding a variety of services available to residents and their families.
  • Assist clients in obtaining and completing applications for a wide variety of programs and services.
  • Work with property management staff when a resident may be in jeopardy of eviction or other lease violations and offer service assistance support and assist with housing resources as needed.
  • Initiate and maintain cooperative relationships and partnerships with other community agencies in the region.
  • Acts as an advocate for services for clients and supports them in accessing services.
  • Evaluate services and programs and implement changes as needed.
  • Maintain financial, client, and program records and prepare related reports as required.
  • Attend and complete training requirements for City of Longmont and the Longmont Housing Authority.
  • Coordinate on-site education and support activities.

Additional Duties:

  • Arrange for public presentations regarding resources.
  • Attend a variety of community meetings regarding property issues and community resources.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives as appropriate.
  • Attend weekly Senior Services Resource Specialists meetings to review financial grant requests and ensure adherence to grant policies and fiscal responsibilities.

Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of LHA.

Required Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four years of college with course work in social work, psychology, sociology, gerontology or related field and two or more years of experience working with older adults, homeless persons, or low income individuals and families in a human services or property management related field. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License. Special qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency desirable.

  • Fair housing and property management is desired.
  • Establish trusted, respective, and effective relationships with clients to support their goals and needs.
  • Conduct intake and assessment of clients, gather information, prepare a case plan, assist the client in accessing services, and follow up as needed.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports on and evaluate services provided.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives of other agencies and organizations, residents, and members of the community, specifically establishing trust with clients.
  • Fluently read, write, and speak in English and Spanish as in required or preferred.
  • Organize and present information about programs and services that effectively communicates to residents and decision makers.
  • Develop programs that address specialized concerns of the residents.
  • Organize workload and manage time effectively.
  • Work with all clients in a manner sensitive and appropriate to their individual cultural norms and values. Respect, relate to, and work with diverse populations.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Follow directions, provide excellent customers service, and display respect & professionalism at all times.
  • Manage and resolve conflict.
  • Conduct work in conjunction with social work practice and ethics.

Working Environment:

Work is primarily performed in a shared office environment within a Longmont Housing Authority property, and will require travel to and from various properties within Longmont as well as possibly performing work in an individual client’s apartment. Work requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English. Work requires occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 15 lbs.), reaching, and bending/stooping. Work involves continuous verbal and written communication via phone, email, and in person with clients, caregivers, and outside agencies, reading documents performing multiple concurrent tasks, problem solving and confidentiality. Work requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment and to operate passenger vehicles to travel to community agencies and client homes.
